March 16, 2026 - IN-PERSON - Emotional Storms: Solidarity, Mutual Entanglement, and Being-in-Relationship
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Eastern Standard Time
Presented by Lucie Fielding, PhD, LMHC, LPC (she/they)
How and under what conditions might we turn toward, embrace, and meet with curiosity, experiences that are attended by risk, fear, uncertainty, and discomfort? And how might we support this courageous act of "turning toward"—as providers, partners, or even within ourselves? Conventional wisdom—particularly in most trauma modalities—is to work to first help a client establish an internal sense or feeling of safety in the body or within one’s system (to draw on the language of “parts work”). This three-hour workshop departs from this conventional wisdom to first problematize the discourse of safety, and then propose as a risk-attuned alternative: solidarity. Feeling a keen sense of solidarity—whether with providers or with partners or within our systems—in concert with an honoring of our neurobiological defenses allows for the rich, emotionally transformative experiences of embodiment and joining-with we and our clients so deeply yearn for.
While this class arises from queer, trans, and psychoanalytic theories and specifically references sexual and kink dynamics, it is applicable to a wide range of therapists, counselors, and clinical providers (as well as trainees and students). The class is designed to provoke and incite new ways of being-in-relationship and engaging in clinical practice within that which the psychoanalytic theorist W.R. Bion (1979) referred to as “emotional storms.” The 3-hour timeframe is designed to allow for a spaciousness for experiential activities, discussion, and integration.
This course will be held live in-person at South Shore Sexual Health Center’s Quincy Center office space, located at 1212 Hancock St., Suite 205, Quincy, MA 02169.
