June 26, 2026: Skills Training - Family Planning in Sex Therapy

$240.00

As relationships develop and couples begin to envision a shared future together, discussions around if, when, and how to bring children into the system are very common and come up frequently in sex therapy clinical practice. In this training, participants will learn from three different sexual health experts, each presenting on a specific topic at the intersection of sex therapy and family planning: contraception, infertility, and sexual/relational dynamics following the birth of a child.

Join us via Zoom to participate in this training. Participants must attend in full to be eligible to receive CE credit for the course. This course is only available to attend live, and will not be recorded for later viewing.

Participants who are enrolled in South Shore Sexual Health Center’s Sex Therapy Training Program should email info@ssshealthcenter.com to register for this course.

Training schedule (All listed times are Eastern Standard Time):

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Contraception and its Impact on Sexual Heath

Presented by: Evelyn Resh, CNM, MPH, MSN, CSC-S

This session will provide participants with basic information about both hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive options, including how they work to prevent pregnancy and their potential impact on sexual interest and health. We will learn about the possible sexual side effects of these methods, which can be significant and are often over-looked or misunderstood by behavioral health providers as well as patients. This can result in diagnostic errors attributing sexual problems to relational conflicts instead of a possible or probable side-effect of a birth control method.

10:30 AM - 10:45 AM: 15 minute break

10:45 AM - 12:15 PM: Infertility, Sex, and Systems

Presented by: Nattalie Wolff-Tseng, PhD, LMHC (FL), LPC, (CO), CST

Infertility and its associated treatments can place stress on couples. Sex, which was previously spontaneous, becomes timed, medicalized, and associated with potential disappointments. This course provides an understanding of infertility and the impacts that sustained attempts at conception may place on a couple. Additionally, it reviews the impacts of fertility challenges placed on LGBTQIA+ individuals and individuals seeking to be single parents by choice. By taking a systems approach, participants will learn how to address those challenges and provide support through the emotional, physical, and relational changes that trying to conceive may bring.

12:15 PM - 12:45 PM: Lunch

12:45 PM - 2:15 PM: Sex Therapy with New Parents

Presented by: Paula Leech, LMFT, CST-S

New parenthood doesn’t have to mean the end of sexual partnership, but it does often represent a significant evolution in the sexual life of the couple! We will explore how to partner with language, curiosity, bravery and risk to inspire growth and expansion within the realm of sexual intimacy, paving the way for a dynamic, approachable sexual life at all stages.

2:15 PM - 2:30 PM: 15 minute break

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Sex Therapy with New Parents, continued
